In the January 25th City Council meeting, Al Barton of the Mid-Columbia Center for Living was asked about ๐ต๐ผ๐ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ to calls involving someone that may have mental health issues. The inference was that police aren't the right agency to respond to those kinds of calls because they're not trained, and he was asked about local diversion programs the police could use. Al Barton ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐น๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ, saying "It's the rarity where it's a heavy-handed law enforcement solution." He described all the ways police have to partner with Mid-Columbia. You can watch and listen to his comments here: https://youtu.be/5hV7jlIpLi8
A few other things from the January 25 HR City Council meeting:
- Openings still exist on the ๐ฏ๐๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ... send in your request for an application if you want input into spending priorities.
- The city team for starting over with the city/council plans for a joint facility are Megan Saunders, Gladys Rivera, and Mark Zanmiller (we recommend reading & doing a "sprint" in 5 days ... design sprints are used not only to create prototypes but to let many businesses and agencies get to real essentials quickly. See https://www.thesprintbook.com/how)
