Two openings are up for election in May for Hood River Parks and Rec Department. Terms for Nan Noteboom and Anna Cavaleri expire this year in June.

If you're interested in promoting open space, including trails and urban forests along with playgrounds and ball fields, talk to supporters and consider filing for the election. The election is May 18; candidate filing opens February 6: https://bit.ly/2NPQCBM

Hood River Parks & Rec has a $1.2 million budget, with funding from system development charges (SDCs) charged for each new home built - about $5,064 right now. Ambitious plans call for construction of a new aquatic center (requiring a bond levy), as well as the beginning of land acquisition on the west side of town for more parks.

There will be a great need for people with a vision for Hood River green spaces who can manage these issues.
